About the work
In Roman culture, the ideal man (vir) was expected to govern himself before governing others. Stoic philosophers like Seneca and Marcus Aurelius praised restraint, discipline and emotional control. Roman and later European traditions often framed masculinity as rationality overcoming desire.
Wrestling with Time focuses on the Greco-Roman wrestler, naked, locked in battle or perhaps embracing their rival.
As the two competing bodies intertwine, exposure lengthens and the boundaries between them blur. We no longer see strength or stability in their individual frames but rather an intricate weaving of lightness in their unity.
