The Weight
of Light
Video works · 2013 – ongoing
Overview
A series of video works investigating the relationship between light and the weight of our presence in the world — made through a duration-distortion technique developed in 2013.
The repetition in the image is echoed through the resonating sound design, which repeats and adds new sounds to build an audio pattern that moves from chaos and dullness to harmony.
This is an ongoing series. I am always looking for galleries to exhibit with and performers to collaborate with.

09Approach
The eye blinks, the mind cuts, but light emits on a slower and more constant presence.
Each individual image within these works takes one second of perceived time to film; however, they are presented back much slower within the installation space. The overlapping shutter speeds blur into each other to reveal limitations in our perception of the body and thus question the stability of our visual identity.
By perceived I am referring to the time we naturally experience. The images are constructed by blending this one second of perceived time with 1/8th of slowed time to highlight the role of light and time in the creation of our identity.
By remaining in a perpetual loop, our reception of the image is built in of itself, assigning new meaning with every revision.
